Ciampino Airport (CIA) is the smaller of the two airports that serve the Italian capital city. Although the official name is Aeroporto G.B. Pastine, it is referred to as Ciampino. The facility is close to the city centre, at about 12 km distance.

This former military airport now welcomes low-cost carriers like Ryanair and Wizzair on civilian flights with over 5.8 million annual passengers. It has one passenger terminal with separate Arrivals and Check-in entrances. Ciampino is relatively small and closed during the night.

The busiest destinations are London, Madrid, Bucharest, Lisbon, Athens, Dublin, Berlin, Brussels, Paris and Budapest. On a weekly basis, Ryanair operates over 30 flights to London Stansted.

How to get from Ciampino airport to Rome by bus

Several companies offer bus services from Ciampino to Rome. The cheapest way but not the most convenient is to use the local circular bus 520 to metro stations Cinecittà and Subaugust, around 9-10 metro stations away from Rome city centre. Sit Bus shuttle, Terravision and Schiaffini offer direct bus services, all of which arrive at Termini station. The buses operate on a regular daily schedule, and the ticket cost is €5 one way. The bus ride takes approximately 40 minutes.

At Ciampino, there is a designated area opposite the International Departure where all buses stop. To reach the bus stop, follow the signs posted throughout the terminal. Bus tickets are available at the authorised agent desk in the Arrivals, onboard and online at the official website.

Transportation from Rome Ciampino airport to Rome by train

There is no direct train for a transfer from Ciampino to Rome Termini station. In 2019, a combined bus and train service took place, Trenitalia Ciampino Airlink. The bus leaves every 20 minutes from a designated square a few metres away from the entrance and runs to Ciampino Station. Afterwards, passengers can continue the trip towards Roma Termini.

Rome taxis usually pick up passengers from designated stands outside the Arrivals. Sometimes, due to crowds, there could be an organised taxi queue. In case you are in a hurry, it is advised not to hire a taxi from non-licensed drivers as they can overcharge you.

The city council has set a flat rate for taxi transfers between Ciampino and Rome of €30 applied only to a destination within the Aurelian walls, the city centre area. If your destination hotel is outside the Aurelian walls area, taxis will charge you by the meter. Flat rates apply only to some destinations like Ostiense Station and Tiburtina Station.
