Metro, railway, tram and bus transportation

Vienna currently has no central bus station and public Bundes buses arrive and depart from several different locations. Westbahnhof station handles train connections from Vienna to Salzburg, Munich, Zurich, Frankfurt, Berlin, while six night trains provide transfers from Vienna to Budapest. Westbahnhof is on U-Bahn lines U3 and U6, and many trams stop outside.

Vienna Sudbahnhof station connects Vienna to Rome, Bratislava and provides transfer from Vienna to Prague as well. Trams connect this station to other parts of Vienna as well as to the other stations.

The train station Franz-Josefs-Bahnhof has regional and local trains from Vienna to Tulln, the Wachau region and Krems an der Donau. Trams stop outside the station.

The smaller stations Wien Nord, Wien Mitte, and Meidling all have U-Bahn stops and offer connections to the airport.

Public transport from and to Vienna Airport

Vienna International Airport or Flughafen Wien-Schwechat (VIE), is located near the city of Vienna, and a few miles south-east of the suburb of Schwechat.

To travel from Vienna International to Vienna you can take the S-Bahn suburban train, City Airport Train (CAT) that operate from Vienna Airport to Vienna Mitte Station. You can also travel by bus or an airport taxi. Some hotels provide a shuttle from Vienna International.

The most comfortable and convenient way from Vienna International to the city centre is by booking a private airport transfer. You can find airport taxis in Vienna Airport, but the cab fare is not fixed, and it can cost you more than a fixed price private transfer.
