Muscat, the capital city of Oman, is surrounded by the Arabian Sea from one side and the Al Hajar Mountains from the other. The city shopping district is in the Al Qurum Commercial Area. Public transportation in Muscat
The public transport in Muscat includes a new and modern bus network. Five bus routes that run to the most popular suburbs, shopping areas, the industrial district, downtown, and famous tourist destinations. The buses depart and arrive at Ruwi Station, while the schedule is not very frequent.
Cruise ships dock at Port 4, Sultan Qaboos in Mutrah, around 20 km away from Muscat. Ferries from Khasab arrive at this Port, as well. Taxis are available in front of the Port.
Muscat Taxis are abundant, and the vehicles are recognisable for their orange and white colours. Generally, they use meters, but it's best to set the rate before entering the city taxi. Maxi Taxi is a cheap shared service. You can take one on the highway to the Corniche area. Note that Maxi taxis have a previously agreed route and you should check if they make a stop near your destination.
Despite the erratic driving style, not clearly marked exits, and no road signs, car rental is the most convenient transportation option for more extended stays. You can rent a car at the airport or book the service online.

Muscat International Airport (MCT) is approximately 40 km away from Muscat. Every year, over 14 million passengers arrive in Muscat via international and intercontinental flights.
Baisa bus is available outside the airport on Sultan Qaboos Highway. Before entering the bus, check with the driver regarding a drop off location closest to your accommodation. You can also take a public bus at the bus stop on the highway within a short walking distance from the airport.
Muscat airport taxis are available outside the airport. Also, you can book a taxi at the Airport Taxi Counter. Before hiring a taxi, make sure you agree on the rate in advance and avoid overcharging.
