Metro, railway, bus and taxi services
Just like in any other large city, Malaga has an efficient transport system which includes the metro, train, bus and Malaga taxi service.
The metro in Malaga is relatively new with two lines. Both metro lines intersect at El Perchel Station in Maria Zambrano. Route 1 runs from Andalucia Tech to El Perchel, while Line 1 starts from Palacio de Los Deportes and runs to El Perchel, and it can be used to reach the beach.
There are two suburban train lines (C1 and C2) connecting Malaga with Fuengirola and Alora. They depart from the Maria Zambrano Station every hour from 06:45 to 22:45. For tourists, the train line C1 from Malaga to Fuengirola is especially of interest, since it makes stops at Malaga International, Torremolinos and Benalmadena.
The bus station is next to the Malaga Train Station. Buses run from Malaga to the nearby villages and towns in Costa del Sol, as well as, to Barcelona and Madrid. There are regular bus lines to Marbella, Benalmadena Costa, Fuengirola, etc.
Car hire in Malaga is a convenient way to visit as many places as possible during the holidays. There are representative offices at the train station and other locations in the city where you can pick up your car.
Malaga Cruise Port has a long history as a trading port used by the Phoenicians. Today is a passenger port, and its location near the old city makes it especially attractive for shore excursions by the visitors.
Getting from Malaga Airport to the city
Malaga Costa del Sol Airport is the fourth busiest in Spain and is the main point of arrival for the famous resorts in Costa del Sol. It's especially busy during peak season. Located approximately 8 km from Malaga city centre the Malaga International Airport has a good connection with the city and the Costa del Sol coastline. There are regular public transport lines, as well as airport taxi and private Malaga airport transfer.
As we mentioned previously, the suburban line C1 makes stop at the airport. You can get from Malaga International to Torremolinos in 10 minutes, while the journey time to Malaga city centre is 12 minutes.
The bus station is in Terminal 3, and there is a city line, as well as several intercity bus lines. The A Express Line (75) runs from Malaga airport to the city centre and the travel time is only 15 minutes. There are direct bus lines from Malaga International to Marbella, Estepona and Santa Amalia.
The taxi rank at Malaga International is outside Arrivals at Terminal 3. The airport taxi can take you to the city or any resort in Costa del Sol. The taxis charge by the meter, and there are different rates for urban and intercity lines, as well as, during weekends and night hours.
