The bus is the only public transport option in Lanzarote and connects the larger cities with the most popular resorts. The main bus depot is located in Arrecife, from where all buses depart to the rest of the island. The south coastline is completely served by public bus, unlike the inner parts of the island. For example, there is no bus line to one of the main attractions, Timanfaya National Park.
Car hire in Lanzarote makes sense if you wish to explore the island at your own pace. As we mentioned, some parts of the island are not covered by the bus, so it’s perfect to go for daily excursions by car.
The Lanzarote taxi service is available on the island and it’s a convenient way to travel between towns and visit different resorts. Lanzarote taxis charge by the meter and there is a surcharge for night rides, as well as, during public holidays and weekends.
The only way to arrive at Lanzarote is by plane. Lanzarote Airport, also known as Arrecife Airport, serves the Lanzarote island and it’s located only 5.5 km from the capital, Arrecife. The direct bus lines from Lanzarote airport to the rest of the island are limited. Thus, it can be very time consuming since you will need to change buses in Arrecife to reach your destination. There are two types of taxis you can take: an airport taxi from the taxi ranks and private airport taxi which can be booked online. The taxi ranks are located outside the terminals and the airport taxi will charge you by the meter. There are different tariffs during the night, as well as, during weekends and public holidays.
