Detroit is the largest and most populated city in the state of Michigan. Another interesting fact is that it is also the largest city on the border between the United States and Canada. Detroit has one of the most beautiful architecture in the U.S, as many of its skyscrapers and buildings are protected landmarks of the United States of America. The city is a major port, as well, and one of the four navigable waterways that connect the Great Lakes system to the Saint Lawrence Seaway.
What to visit
The so-called motor city oozes with history. Detroit is home of the legendary Motown Record Corporation and Ford Motor Company. Other must-visit places include the Corktown, Cliff Bell’s, The RiverWalk, Detroit theatre district and the list goes on. There are also art museums, the tastiest pizza in America and trendiest markets.
How to get around the city
Several companies handle Detroit bus transportation. DDOT buses run within the city, and you can easily recognise them by their green and yellow stripes. The SMART buses with red and orange stripes connect the city with the suburbs.
The Detroit People Mover is an elevated light rail service, 2.9 miles long with 13 stations and automatic stops at few key downtown spots. Another popular transport option is the QLine, a circulating streetcar that runs between Congress Street and West Grand Boulevard in the city centre.
Detroit car rental companies have representative offices at the airport, as well as in different locations in the city. Renting a car is an excellent choice for tourists who wish to explore the city and the surrounding area at their own pace. Detroit taxis are available at various locations in downtown Detroit, usually near hotels or at Cobo centre. The City of Detroit regulates the fares of all authorised cabs in Detroit. Sometimes drivers require the estimated amount to be paid in advance as a deposit.
Getting to Detroit centre from Detroit Metropolitan Airport
Detroit Metropolitan Airport (DTW) is one of the world’s leading hubs with over 1,100 flights per day to/from 4 continents. The airport is southwest of Michigan downtown, at approximately 18 miles distance. It consists of two terminals and three concourses A, B and C.
SMART buses depart from the North and Mcnamara terminals and connect DTW with downtown Detroit. Another alternative is the AirRide bus that operates between Detroit Metropolitan Airport and Ann Arbor area. Both AirRide and SMART transportation services are now in the McNamara Ground Transportation Center. Detroit airport taxi services are also available at both terminals, at the Ground Transportation area, and they operate 24/7.

The only reason for giving 4 stars was for the vehicle pick up from airport to resort was because of the vehicle being g a bit worn and tired interior.
Return to airport was excellent.
